Pune News, July 05, 2025: In a significant leap towards enhancing urban mobility, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) successfully conducted the first trial run of Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar. The trial, held between Maan Depot and PMR-4 Station, marks a crucial step in the project’s progress, with 87% of the work already completed.

The 23.3-kilometer elevated metro corridor, featuring 23 stations, is set to revolutionize travel for thousands of daily commuters, particularly those navigating the bustling IT hub of Hinjawadi. Once operational, the metro will significantly reduce traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, offering a faster, smarter, and eco-friendly alternative.

Public-Private Partnership Driving Progress

Executed under a PPP model by PMRDA and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCRL), the project began construction on 25th November 2024 and is advancing rapidly. A PMRDA spokesperson highlighted, “The successful trial run is a testament to our team’s dedication. Line 3 will play a pivotal role in decongesting Pune’s roads, especially in Hinjawadi.”
