The wait for seamless connectivity to Pune’s IT hub is shortening as Pune Metro Line 3 hits a major operational milestone. In a significant step towards its launch, the first two stations of the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar corridor have been officially handed over to the operations team, signaling the start of the final preparatory phase.

A Major Milestone: Stations Handed Over for Operations

The project has moved beyond pure construction into the operational readiness stage. Authorities have handed over the first two completed stations to Keolis, the appointed Operation and Maintenance (O&M) partner.

This transfer is a critical step, as Keolis will now be in charge of the station infrastructure, systems, and all preparations for commercial operations. As more stations are completed, they will be progressively handed over, streamlining the path to a full public launch.

Final Touches: Track Alignment and Advanced Technology

While stations are being transferred, construction on the line itself is also in its final stages. The crucial “final parameter making” process is actively underway in the Baner area. This technical phase involves setting the track’s final alignment and geometry to ensure smooth and safe train movement.

Simultaneously, the installation of the third rail system is progressing. This is a landmark feature for Pune Metro Line 3, making it the first metro line in Maharashtra to incorporate this technology.

  • Enhanced Efficiency: The third rail, operating at 750V DC, supplies power directly to the trains, offering greater reliability and operational efficiency.

Route, Timeline, and Transformative Impact

The elevated 23.3-km Pink Line will feature 23 stations, connecting key areas like Shivajinagar, Aundh, Baner, Balewadi, and Hinjawadi.

  • Project Progress: Officials report that over 95% of the civil construction work is slated for completion by December 2025.
  • Operational Launch: With station handovers underway, the entire Pune Metro Line 3 is expected to be fully operational by March 2026.

The primary goal of this project is to decongest the notoriously traffic-choked roads linking Pune’s city center with its eastern IT hub. Upon launch, it will drastically reduce travel time and offer a reliable, modern commuting alternative, transforming Pune’s urban mobility landscape.
