Pune’s metro network is set to expand further with the state government approving two new stations on the Swargate–Katraj underground extension of Line 1. The new stations will come up at Bibwewadi and Balaji Nagar, bringing major relief to residents along Satara Road who have been demanding better connectivity.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation and Pune MP, Murlidhar Mohol, shared this information, calling it an important step for the city. With this approval, the originally planned three stations on this stretch will now increase to five.

The project will see an additional investment of ₹683 crore. Construction is expected to begin after the 2025 monsoon and is targeted for completion in four years. The new extension will not only ease congestion on Satara Road but also provide direct metro access from Pimpri Chinchwad and Swargate to Bibwewadi, KK Market, Dhankawadi, Bharati Vidyapeeth, and Katraj Zoo.

The terminal point at Katraj PMPML bus stand will be developed into a mini transport hub, integrating metro services with PMPML buses, ST buses, and private travel coaches. This is expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity for thousands of daily commuters.
