Pune Metro Expansion Plans: Nigdi-Wakad-Chakan Corridor, Line 2 Extension, and Swargate-Katraj Underground Work Orders Soon
On 21st September 2025, a high-level review meeting was held to discuss the future expansion of Pune Metro projects. The meeting was attended by Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Guardian Minister of Pune District. On behalf of MahaMetro, Managing Director Shravan Hardikar presented the upcoming plans. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, MahaMetro Director (Works) Shri Atul Gadgil, senior MahaMetro officials, and officers from various government departments were also present.
A major highlight from the meeting was the agreement between MahaMetro and NHAI to construct a double-decker flyover from Godown Chowk to Chakan along the Pune-Nashik highway for the upcoming Nigdi-Wakad-Chakan Metro corridor.

This new corridor will feature:
- A 42 km elevated metro line.
- 31 elevated stations.
- Two interchanges with Line 1 (Nigdi-Swargate) at Nigdi and Nashik Phata.
- One interchange with Line 3 (Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar) at Wakad.

Additionally, discussions included the extension of Metro Line 2, which currently runs from Vanaz to Ramwadi, further towards Wagholi and Vithalwadi. In a separate development, MahaMetro plans to issue the work order for the Swargate-Katraj underground stretch next month, advancing the city’s underground metro network.
