Pune: Massive Fire Guts Two Warehouses in Pimple Gurav; Property Worth Lakhs Destroyed
Pune, February 16, 2026: A major fire broke out in the Pimple Gurav area of Pimpri-Chinchwad on Sunday afternoon, reducing two large warehouses to ashes. The incident, which occurred near Chandrabhaga Lawns around 12:00 PM, sent thick plumes of black smoke into the sky, sparking panic among local residents and shopkeepers.
Preliminary reports from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) fire department suggest that a short circuit likely triggered the blaze. The fire originated in storage units containing highly flammable decorative materials and wooden plywood, allowing the flames to spread with aggressive speed.
Rapid Response Prevents Further Disaster
Upon receiving the emergency call, PCMC fire brigade teams rushed multiple fire engines to the spot. Firefighters engaged in a high-intensity battle to contain the inferno, successfully preventing the sparks from leaping to adjacent residential buildings and commercial outlets.
Shahaji Kopnar, a PCMC fire brigade official, confirmed that while the property was completely gutted, the swift intervention ensured that the fire was brought under control before it could claim any lives.
Assessment and Safety Concerns
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. However, the material loss is estimated to be significant. Cooling operations continued well into the evening to ensure no hidden embers could reignite the debris.
The incident has once again turned the spotlight on fire safety protocols within the industrial and warehousing zones of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation to confirm the exact cause and to assess whether the godowns were equipped with mandatory fire-fighting equipment.
