Pune: Man Arrested for Bomb Threat Hoax at Sassoon Hospital, Used Stolen Mobile Phone

Pune, May 15, 2025 – The Bundgarden Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for sending a bomb threat message to Sassoon Hospital using a stolen mobile phone. The accused, Arvind Krishna Kokani, a security guard at Sassoon Hospital and resident of Yerwada, Pune, was apprehended following a detailed investigation by the Bundgarden Police team.
On May 12, a threatening message claiming a bomb had been placed inside Sassoon Hospital was sent to Dr. Harish Suresh Tatiya via an unknown number. The alarming message created panic among the hospital staff, patients, their relatives, and the police force. Responding swiftly, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with Inspector Yele, thoroughly searched the hospital premises. While no explosives were found, a formal complaint was filed, and an FIR was registered against the unknown sender for creating public fear and disruption.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Circle 2) Smarta Patil guided the investigation team. Under the leadership of PSI Swapnil Lohar, and with the efforts of police officers Pradip Shitole, Saras Salvi, Prakash Awhad, Manoj Bhokare, Manish Sankpal, Mahesh Jadhav, Vishnu Sarvade, Amit Saste, and Ramdas Ghavate, a meticulous technical and ground-level investigation was launched.
The accused, Kokani, was found using a mobile phone stolen from a female patient admitted in Ward No. 73. He admitted to sending the threatening message to Dr. Tatiya and later to Medical Superintendent Mr. Jadhav using the stolen phone. After sending the messages, he would switch off the phone to evade detection. Kokani was arrested on May 14 as part of the ongoing investigation.
The successful operation was executed under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional CP Manoj Patil (West Region), DCP Smarta Patil (Circle 2), Assistant Commissioner of Police Deepak Nikam (Lashkar Division), and Senior Police Inspectors Ravindra Gaikwad, Nilkanth Jagtap, and Sampatrao Raut.
