Pune, May 7: Residents of Pune experienced a pleasant change in weather as light rain brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat, pulling the maximum temperature down to around 34°C. The shift comes amid an ongoing weather pattern affecting much of Maharashtra.

In Mumbai, several areas witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by light to heavy rainfall, disrupting the typical early May heat. While the intensity of the rains is expected to reduce across Maharashtra after tomorrow, weather experts indicate that light rain in isolated areas—including Pune and Mumbai—may continue.

The current spell of rain and thunderstorms is attributed to the presence of a trough, or low-pressure line, extending from the northeast Arabian Sea to an upper air cyclonic circulation (UAC) over West Madhya Pradesh. This system is drawing moisture from the Arabian Sea, and combined with high temperatures, is causing localized thunderstorms and lightning.

Mahabaleshwar recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at a chilly 14.4°C, while Bramhapuri registered the highest maximum temperature at a sweltering 40°C.

For today, Pune is expected to receive only light rain. Meanwhile, multiple districts in the Konkan region are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rain.
