Pune Airport is set to receive 13 acres of land from the Indian Air Force (IAF) by late August or September, as confirmed by the airport’s director. The land acquisition will significantly aid in decongesting flight operations by enabling the development of essential infrastructure, including new aircraft parking bays.

In exchange for the land, airport authorities are constructing office facilities for the IAF on a separate plot, with 95% of the work already completed. Once handed over, the airport will gain access to the 13-acre parcel and begin drafting a master plan for its utilization.

Recent developments have seen the airport record 212 flight movements in a single day. The IAF has also increased commercial flight slots to 235, with 207 currently in use.

Plans include constructing five additional parking bays and three remote bays on the newly acquired land to address parking shortages that often delay landings and cause congestion. These bays are expected to be operational by late 2024 or early 2025.

Additionally, renovation of the arrival area in the old terminal is underway, with plans to repurpose it as a departure zone featuring 14 check-in counters by December. A newly opened airside food court further enhances passenger amenities.

An aviation expert emphasized the need for timely infrastructure expansion to match rising flight volumes, ensuring operational efficiency and passenger comfort.
