Pune, May 25, 2025 â€“ A tanker transporting highly corrosive hydrochloric acid overturned in Pune’s Tamhini Ghat early Sunday morning, prompting emergency response measures and traffic disruptions. The incident occurred before 7 am near Dongargaon, approximately 40 km from Pune city.

Authorities suspect a possible acid leak, leading to temporary road closures on the hilly route connecting Pune to Mahad in Raigad district. Nearby residents reported eye and throat irritation, though no casualties have been confirmed.

The tanker, owned by Advaya Chemical Industries, veered off the road and landed in a roadside trench. Inspector Santosh Girigosavi of Paud police stated that the company has dispatched an expert team to assess and manage the situation.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) fire brigade responded but maintained a safe distance due to toxic fumes. Vijay Mahajan of PMRDA Fire Brigade confirmed road closures within a 1 km radius as a precaution. A crane has been deployed to assist in recovery efforts.
