Pune: Hinjawadi Suffers Waterlogging, Brutal Traffic Jams After 74 mm Rainfall

Pune, May 20, 2024: Hinjawadi, Pune’s premium IT hub, faced chaos on Tuesday as heavy rain of 74 mm led to severe waterlogging and massive traffic snarls across the area. Commuters reported extreme delays, with vehicle movement nearly halted from Embassy Quadra to TCS Phase 3.
Flooded roads submerged Metro construction columns, and multiple vehicles were seen stuck in the rising waters near TCG and SunBeam areas. The combination of delayed Metro work, poor drainage, and unrelenting downpours once again exposed the infrastructural vulnerabilities of one of Pune’s key IT corridors.
IT employees working in Hinjawadi bore the brunt of the situation, with many spending over two hours stuck in gridlocked traffic. Gusty winds, heavy thunderstorms, and clogged roads turned routine commutes into exhausting marathons. Social media users voiced frustration over the lack of administrative accountability, highlighting how taxpayers face these issues every monsoon season.
