Pune: Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Spotted Conducting Second Trial Run at Higher Speed
Pune News, July 22, 2025: In a significant milestone for Hinjawadi IT Park residents and employees, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) was spotted conducting the second trial run of Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar. The trial was carried out at a speed of approximately 40 kmph, showcasing steady progress toward the metro’s operational readiness.
A Major Step Toward Enhanced Urban Mobility
Earlier this month, PMRDA completed the first trial run of the 23.3-kilometer elevated metro corridor, testing operations between Maan Depot and PMR-4 Station. With 87% of the project already completed, the latest trial further validates the system’s efficiency and safety.
A Game-Changer for Pune’s Commuters
Once operational, Metro Line 3 is expected to transform daily travel for thousands, particularly those in Hinjawadi’s bustling IT hub. The fully elevated corridor, featuring 23 stations, will significantly reduce traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad while offering a faster, eco-friendly alternative.

Addressing Traffic Woes with Partial Opening
With traffic congestion in Hinjawadi becoming a major concern over the past six months, drawing criticism from citizens and opposition leaders, PMRDA has decided to open a 13-kilometer stretch—from Megapolis Circle to Balewadi Phata—by September this year, reported Hindustan Times. This move aims to alleviate public pressure and provide immediate relief to commuters.
As the final phase of construction continues, Pune residents can soon look forward to a seamless, efficient, and sustainable transit solution.
