Pune: Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Completion Date Revised, Yet Again!

Pune News, Hinjawadi, 15th June 2025: The much-anticipated Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, has faced yet another delay, with its revised completion date now set for March 2026. The extension was approved by the executive committee led by the Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), as confirmed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) officials.
PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase stated, “The committee has sanctioned the extension. The revised outer deadline for finishing the entire Metro Line 3 corridor is now March 2026.”
Alongside the Metro, the double-decker flyover from University Chowk to E-Square junction has also received an extended deadline, now aiming for completion by October 2025.
While 85% of Metro construction is already complete, officials cited pending permissions for barricading on VIP and high-traffic roads, as well as slow utility relocations, as key hurdles. Initially slated for March 2025, the project has seen multiple delays—first to September, then December, and now March 2026. Trial runs, earlier planned for September 2025, are now expected in early 2026.
The single-phase launch of the entire Metro line has drawn criticism from daily commuters and tech professionals in Hinjawadi, who were hoping for faster transit solutions. “Every few months, the deadline shifts. People are frustrated,” said a commuter advocacy group member.
Officials remain optimistic, asserting that the new timeline is achievable barring further administrative or weather-related disruptions.
