Pune, June 23, 2025: Hinjawadi IT Park, one of India’s largest IT hubs employing over 5 lakh professionals, faces severe infrastructure challenges, prompting employees and residents to demand its merger with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Despite operating for over two decades, the area lacks basic amenities, including reliable water supply, waste management, efficient traffic systems, stable electricity, and proper security.

Persistent Infrastructure Issues

Employees and residents have long struggled with poor road conditions, chronic traffic congestion, and inadequate public services. The absence of a single governing body has exacerbated the problem, with complaints being shuffled between multiple authorities like MIDC, Pune Municipal Corporation, PCMC, PMRDA, MSEDCL, Metro, and the Police.

Supriya Sule, NCP-SP MP, highlighted these concerns in a letter to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on June 20, urging the formation of a dedicated authority to streamline governance. She emphasized that overlapping jurisdictions delay resolutions, worsening road quality, power cuts, and water shortages.

Employees Launch Online Petition

Frustrated IT professionals have started a Change.org petition, pushing for Hinjawadi’s merger with PCMC to ensure unified governance and better infrastructure. The petition aims to collect 5,000–7,000 signatures before being submitted to the CM. Organizers also plan an offline legal petition to enforce action.

Monsoon Woes Add to Misery

Recent heavy rains caused severe waterlogging and traffic snarls, disrupting daily life. Flooded roads and prolonged jams have further highlighted the urgent need for systemic improvements.

As demands grow louder, all eyes are on the state government’s response to resolve Hinjawadi’s long-pending civic crisis.
