Pune: Hinjawadi Accident Prevention Measures Take Centre Stage as Police and PMRDA Hold Back-to-Back Meetings; Key Issues to Be Fixed Before First Week of December CM Visit
Pune, November 27, 2025: Hinjawadi’s rising accident numbers have pushed authorities into action, with two high-level meetings held this week by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police and PMRDA. Both discussions focused on strengthening road safety, fixing internal roads, and improving traffic management across the IT hub.
Police Review Safety Concerns After Multiple Fatal Accidents
An urgent meeting was held on November 24 at the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner’s office. Senior officials from the Police, PMRDA, RTO and other departments came together to examine the causes behind recent accidents and the immediate steps needed to curb them.
Petitioner and #UnclogHinjawadiITPark representative Sachin Londhe, who attended the meeting, highlighted concerns raised by IT professionals who travel daily in the area.

Officials discussed accident statistics, blind-spot risks involving heavy vehicles, and the lack of proper road conditions. The meeting ran for 90 minutes and ended with a commitment from both Police and PMRDA to fast-track practical safety measures.
Key Recommendations to Improve Safety
Authorities shared a list of corrective steps aimed at reducing repeat incidents. The focus was particularly on heavy vehicles such as RMC trucks, which have been involved in several recent mishaps. Proposed measures included:
- Mandatory assistants for heavy vehicles to monitor blind spots
- Speed limiters inside engines
- Protective metal barricades between vehicles for RMC trucks
- Sensors, alarms, rear-view mirrors and tail cameras
- Defined heavy-vehicle zones and last-mile metro connectivity
- Daytime restrictions for heavy trucks on key routes
The Police are expected to issue formal notifications soon.
PMRDA also confirmed that land acquisition for long-pending road widening inside Hinjawadi is underway, along with work orders for road carpeting.
PMRDA Holds Follow-Up Meeting After Email Drive
Two days later, on November 26, PMRDA held a detailed review meeting at its Akurdi office. This meeting was a direct outcome of the recent email drive by the UnclogHinjawadiITPark team, which reached the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and multiple agencies.
The objective was to review accidental deaths in the region and track commitments made earlier during the July meeting with the Chief Minister.
Senior officials from PMRDA, PCMC, MIDC, MSEDCL, PWD, NHAI and employee groups participated in the discussion.
Major Decisions Taken by PMRDA
Several important decisions were finalised to support ongoing Hinjawadi Accident Prevention Measures:
- Surya Hospital/Wakad bypass alignment and compensation model to be reviewed

- Six-lane road upgrade between Hinjawadi Phase 1 and Phase 3 to be expedited
- Metro line roads to be resurfaced within 1–2 months; temporary patchwork before the CM’s December 5/6 visit
- FIRs will be registered against officials for future fatal accidents caused by negligence

- Design update for Laxmi Chowk elevated corridor bridge
- Hinjawadi Chowk widening plan discussed
- Improvements planned for Baner route and NHAI service road underpasses
- Cost-sharing model for 300 additional traffic personnel for Hinjawadi and Chakan
- Metro stations expected to be ready within 2–3 months
- Entry-height barricades to be installed at Bhumkar Chowk
- Alternative route near Emcure to be explored
All agencies were instructed to work on a war-footing to clear pending action points before the CM’s review meeting.
Additional Proposals Submitted to PMRDA
Sachin Londhe submitted two applications on behalf of UnclogHinjawadiITPark and the Wakad-Pimpri Chinchwad Residents Development and Welfare Association. These proposals focused on improving long-term mobility:
- Skywalk connectivity using solar-powered single-pillar FOBs
- Last-mile connectivity with feeder buses and shared auto services
PMRDA will submit both proposals to the Chief Minister next week.
A Coordinated Push for Safer Roads
Both meetings reflect a clear shift in approach by enforcement and planning authorities. With accident numbers rising and daily commuters expressing fear over unsafe routes, the focus on Hinjawadi Accident Prevention Measures has become urgent. The coming weeks, especially the CM’s December 5/6 review, will determine how quickly these decisions turn into on-ground improvements.
