Pune, May 22, 2025: Pune city and surrounding areas faced severe power disruptions on Tuesday evening (May 20) due to heavy rains that damaged electrical infrastructure. Fallen trees and fast-moving water streams affected power systems in Kondhwa, Bhonsari, and Chakan, leading to widespread outages.

Engineers from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) worked overnight to restore power, with Kondhwa seeing gradual recovery by Wednesday morning. In Kondhwa—one of the worst-hit areas—38 feeder pillars were flooded due to rapid water flow and uneven terrain, cutting off electricity to nearly 38,000 homes in Kondhwa, JK Park, and Kumar Palm as a precaution.

In rural areas like Chakan, ten power poles collapsed, impacting Kuruli, Nighoje, Sara City, Nanekarwadi, Mahalunge, and Ambethan. Meanwhile, within Pune, waterlogging and fallen tree branches damaged underground cables and power lines, causing blackouts in Fursungi, Kothrud, Shivane, Dhanori, Dhayari, Market Yard, Premnagar, Mundhwa, Bund Garden, and Maharshinagar. Similar issues affected Bhosari, Talawade, Dehu, Shelarnagar, Chikhali, Charholi, Dighi, Yamunanagar, Vitthalwadi, Rupinagar, Alandi Road, Indrayani Nagar, Chinchwad Station, Santnagar, Adarsh Nagar, Khadi Machine, and Shantinagar.

MSEDCL teams conducted emergency repairs late into the night to restore power. Residents can report outages via toll-free numbers 1912, 1800-212-3435, or 1800-233-3435 or by sending an SMS with NOPOWER to 9930399303.
