Pune: Heavy Rain Causes Chaos – 2 Hoardings Collapse, 15 Trees Uprooted, Waterlogging Widespread

Pune faced severe disruption on Monday and Tuesday as heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, lashed the city, leading to multiple incidents of property damage and traffic chaos.

Key Incidents:

  • Two large hoardings collapsed—one in Sanaswadi (Pune-Ahmednagar Road) and another on Porwal Road in Dhanori—trapping several motorcycles underneath. No injuries were reported.
  • At least 15 trees were uprooted across areas like Yerawada, Koregaon Park, Dhanori, Hadapsar, and Fatimanagar, blocking roads and damaging vehicles.
  • Wall collapses were reported in Dhankawadi and Tin Hatti Chowk, though no casualties occurred.
  • Waterlogging and power outages affected Kondhwa, Katraj, Shivajinagar, Hinjawadi and Chinchwad, where 93.5 mm of rainfall was recorded.

  • Fire brigade and PMC teams worked overnight to clear debris and restore traffic.
  • Traffic snarls were reported on FC Road, Karve Road, Swargate, and Solapur Road due to flooding.

  • Chandani Chowk faced severe waterlogging, with locals warning of flash flood risks due to blocked natural drains.
  • Viral videos showed submerged two-wheelers in Kondhwa and flooded shops in Katraj.

The IMD warned of increased rainfall activity till May 25 due to a potential low-pressure system forming over the Arabian Sea. Authorities urged citizens to avoid unstable structures and waterlogged areas.
