Pune Heat Intensifies: Mercury Climbs as Unseasonal Rain Threatens Parts of Maharashtra
PUNE: Residents of Pune are bracing for a sweltering weekend as temperatures continue their upward trajectory, signaling an unusually warm February. Data from February 20 reveals that several pockets in the district have already crossed the 33°C-34°C mark, while nights are becoming notably warmer, offering little respite from the daytime heat.
Pune Temperature Breakdown
According to the latest recorded data, Dhamdhere emerged as the hottest spot in the region with a maximum temperature of 34.0°C, closely followed by NDA at 33.9°C and Dudulgaon at 33.8°C. Even the central city areas like Shivajinagar and Chinchwad recorded a high of 33.0°C.
Minimum temperatures also showed a significant rise, with Magarpatta recording a warm low of 21.8°C and Chinchwad at 21.5°C. The coolest spot in the district was Shirur, which recorded a minimum of 14.8°C.
Weekend Outlook: High Humidity and Cloudy Skies
For the upcoming weekend, Punekars should prepare for a temperature range between 33°C and 18°C. However, the heat will feel more oppressive than the numbers suggest. Humidity levels are expected to fluctuate between 85% and 55%, significantly increasing the “real feel” temperature and making the air feel heavy and uncomfortable.
While the skies will remain mainly clear initially, a change in weather pattern is expected from February 22, with conditions likely becoming partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening.
Thunderstorm Alerts for Maharashtra
While Pune swelters, other parts of Maharashtra are bracing for unseasonal weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that several districts may experience rain and thunderstorms.
- Rain & Thunderstorm Warnings: Ahilyanagar, Sangli, Sholapur, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv.
- Yellow Alert: A yellow alert has been issued for Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, where thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places.
Farmers and residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions against sudden lightning strikes and gusty winds.
