Pune: Head-On Collision Between i10 and XUV on Jagtap Dairy–Wakad BRT Road, Family Injured
Pune, Thursday: A Hyundai i10 and a Mahindra XUV collided head-on inside the Jagtap Dairy–Wakad BRT corridor, leaving a family injured and renewing concerns about the growing misuse of dedicated bus lanes in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The crash took place within the marked BRT lane, and the impact was strong enough for airbags to deploy in both vehicles. The family travelling in the i10 suffered injuries and received medical assistance after the incident.

Officials said private vehicles continue to enter BRT routes despite repeated warnings and fines, especially across stretches in Pimple Saudagar, Pimpri, Wakad and Nigdi. These lanes are meant exclusively for PMPML buses to ensure smooth flow, but encroachments slow down public transport and increase the chances of accidents.
Traffic authorities have intensified enforcement, but violations remain frequent. The latest crash comes at a time when Pune has been reporting multiple road accidents, including recent concerns on the Navale Bridge in Narhe. PCMC has indicated stricter measures ahead to curb illegal entry into BRT lanes, stressing that repeated violations are putting commuters at risk and affecting traffic movement.
