Pune News, June 15, 2025: In a significant move to decongest Pune Junction, the Pune Railway Division is upgrading Hadapsar station into a full-fledged satellite terminal. This transformation comes as Pune Junction faces heavy train traffic, prompting authorities to shift some long-distance services to Hadapsar.

The redevelopment, executed by the Gati-Shakti unit under Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, carries an estimated cost of ₹135 crore. Key upgrades include extending the Up and Down platforms to 600 meters to accommodate 24-coach trains, constructing a new passenger coach line from the existing Up goods line, and adding a new goods line on the station’s up side.

Additionally, the project involves building a new station structure, improving the circulating area, and installing enhanced parking and water supply systems. Platforms 1, 2, and 3 have already been extended for 24-coach operations.

Passenger Amenities & Airport-Like Experience

A sum of ₹11.69 crore has been allocated for passenger amenities, including digital displays, modern waiting areas, clean drinking water, and better seating. A railway official stated that Hadapsar station will offer an “airport-like experience” with elevators, escalators, a 12-meter-wide foot overbridge, a roof plaza, and retiring rooms.

Connectivity Challenges Persist

Despite progress, last-mile connectivity remains an issue. Unlike Pune Junction, Hadapsar lacks reliable public transport options. Sneha Kulkarni, a daily commuter from Magarpatta, highlighted poor PMPML bus services, absence of shared transport, and overcharging by auto-rickshaws. Congested approach roads during peak hours further complicate access.

Authorities are collaborating with local agencies to improve transport links. Once operational, Hadapsar station is expected to ease Pune Junction’s congestion and better serve eastern Pune areas like Magarpatta, Amanora, and Hadapsar. The redevelopment, a milestone in Pune’s urban transport growth, is slated for completion by early 2026.
