Pune: Forum For IT Employees Demands New Bus Station In Western Pune To Ease Commuter Struggles From Hinjawadi, Ravet, Wakad, Sus, And More
The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) Maharashtra has demanded the construction of a transit hub (bus depot) in western Pune to ease the struggles of commuters from rapidly growing areas like Hinjawadi, Wakad, Baner, Balewadi, Aundh, Bavdhan, Sus, Pashan, and parts of Kothrud. These localities have emerged as major IT, residential, and educational hubs, attracting professionals, students, and families.
Currently, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) operates four bus stations in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad—Swargate, Shivajinagar/Wakdewadi, Pimpri Colony, and Pune Station (Shivneri). However, residents of western Pune face difficulties as these stations are far away, forcing them to wait on highways to catch buses to Satara, Karad, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Mumbai.
FITE emphasized the need for a proper bus stand rather than just stops, stating on X: “We don’t want just a bus stop; we want a proper bus stand or transit hub from where intercity buses can originate, not just pick up long-waiting passengers.”

Swargate remains the primary hub for statewide travel, with an upcoming underground metro station set to include a multi-modal transit hub. Meanwhile, the original Shivajinagar bus stand was shifted to Wakdewadi due to metro construction. With western Pune’s increasing development, FITE’s demand aims to provide better connectivity for daily commuters.

- Pimpri Colony:Â Serves industrial and residential areas, connecting to western Maharashtra.
- Swargate:Â Major intercity hub linking to cities across Maharashtra.
- Wakdewadi (Shivajinagar):Â Temporary replacement for Shivajinagar stand, handling intercity buses.
- Pune Station (Shivneri):Â Primarily operates luxury Shivneri buses for Pune-Mumbai routes.
