The first incident occurred in Kadachiwadi near Chakan, where four boys—Omkar Babasaheb Hange (13), Shlok Jagdish Mankar (11), Prasad Shankar Deshmukh (11), and Naitik Gopal More (12)—drowned while swimming in a percolation tank. Preliminary investigations suggest the boys, all residents of Medankarwadi, were unaware of the water body’s depth, leading to the fatal accident.

According to Pramod Wagh, senior police inspector at Chakan police station, the boys left home around 11 am and later entered the water. When they did not return, their parents alerted authorities. Their belongings were found near the pond, prompting a search operation involving Chakan police and local trekking groups. By evening, all four bodies were recovered.

The families of the deceased are migrant workers from different parts of Maharashtra. An accidental death case has been registered, and post-mortem procedures are underway.

In a separate incident, 17-year-old Nilesh Shinde from Kasarwadi drowned during a day trip to Lonavla on Friday. Shinde was part of a group of 13 who visited a dam, where he was swept away by strong currents. Despite rescue efforts by friends and the Shiv Durga rescue team, his body was recovered late evening.

Authorities have urged caution around water bodies, especially during monsoon season when currents and depths can be unpredictable.
