Pune: Elderly Woman Dies as Tree Falls on Autorickshaw Near Neelayam Talkies
Pune, May 29, 2025: A 76-year-old woman tragically lost her life after a tree collapsed on the autorickshaw she was traveling in near Neelayam Talkies on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM during heavy rains and strong winds that lashed Pune.
The deceased has been identified as Shubhada Yashwant Sapre, a resident of Anand Nagar near Santosh Hall on Sinhagad Road. According to police reports, the impact of the falling tree severely damaged the autorickshaw and left Sapre with critical injuries. She was rushed to Chaitanya Hospital but succumbed during treatment.
The autorickshaw driver, Sanjay Avchare, sustained minor leg injuries. Avchare mentioned that he initially hesitated to take Sapre due to the heavy rainfall but agreed because of her advanced age. He had picked her up from Abhinav College after she visited a nearby bank.
This marks the second such incident in recent days—a man was killed after a tree fell on him near Alankar Police Station in Kothrud on May 26. Municipal authorities, including the garden superintendent and ward officer, visited the site and are assisting the victim’s family.
