Pune: Elderly Man Found Dead in River Near Shivaji Bridge, Identity Revealed

Pune News, June 15, 2025: In a tragic incident, the body of a 67-year-old man was recovered from the river near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Bridge on Saturday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Prakash Maruti Kolekar, a resident of Bibwewadi.
According to police officials, the body was found around 12:30 PM. Authorities suspect that Kolekar may have been swept away by strong water currents. Fire officer Kalmesh Chaudhari stated that the body was retrieved using a rope, and an Aadhaar card found in a plastic bag inside the victim’s trouser pocket helped confirm his identity.
Senior Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi of Shivajinagar Police Station mentioned that the body has been sent for postmortem. Preliminary investigations suggest no foul play, with indications pointing towards accidental drowning due to overflowing water.
The incident has raised concerns about safety near water bodies, especially during monsoon season when water levels rise unpredictably. Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution near rivers and flooded areas.
