Pune District Ready for Local Body Elections, Public Holiday Declared in Poll-Bound Areas
Pune, December 01, 2025: The Pune district administration has completed all preparations for the 2025 municipal council and nagar panchayat elections scheduled on December 2. District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the district is ready to conduct the polling in a transparent, fair and smooth manner.
He appealed to citizens and political parties to follow the Model Code of Conduct and maintain peace during the entire process. He urged all eligible voters to come forward and cast their vote, calling the election a sacred democratic event.
Under the State Election Commission’s 2025 election programme, voting will take place for 12 municipal councils and 3 nagar panchayats in the district. A total of 76 candidates are contesting for the post of president and 955 candidates for member seats. Voting hours have been fixed from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm. As per the commission’s directions, a mock poll will be conducted before actual voting begins.
Authorities also clarified that no advertisements of any kind will be allowed in print, electronic or social media on December 2, the polling day, or after the campaign period ends.
Across the district, 524 polling stations have been set up for 4,51,025 voters. This includes 2,27,142 men, 2,23,407 women and 23 third-gender voters.
Holiday Declared in Poll-Bound Areas
To ensure voters can participate without difficulty, the state government has declared a public holiday on December 2 in all affected municipal areas. This holiday also applies to voters working outside their home constituencies. Central government offices, semi-government offices, public sector undertakings and banks in these areas will remain closed.
However since there is no polling activity happening in PMC and PCMC areas, there will be no holiday in companies and offices in the jurisdiction of these areas.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi added, “On December 2, there will be a public holiday primarily in rural areas of the 18 local bodies and not in the cities.”
What’s Open
- All areas under PMC and PCMC – no holiday applicable
- City-based offices, private companies and commercial establishments
- Schools and colleges in urban non-polling limits are expected to remain open as usual
- Public transport services are expected to operate normally, including intra-city movement
The district has arranged 13 pink polling booths staffed entirely by women, along with 15 model polling stations. A total of 3,021 officials, including presiding officers and polling staff, will be on duty. Adequate police deployment has been made to maintain law and order.
For the voting process, 1,608 ballot units and 823 control units have been prepared. Polling teams with all required materials have already reached their allotted booths.
After reviewing the arrangements, Collector Dudi instructed polling officials to strictly follow the State Election Commission’s guidelines and carry out their duties responsibly to ensure a smooth and peaceful election.
