Pune: District Collector Calls for Urgent Measures to Reduce Road Accident Deaths, Identifies 42 Blackspots

Pune News, June 24, 2025: Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has directed authorities to implement immediate and long-term measures to curb road accidents and fatalities across the district. Speaking at the District Road Safety Committee meeting held at the Collector’s Office, Dudi emphasized the urgent need for public awareness campaigns and infrastructural improvements at identified accident-prone zones, known as blackspots.

The district has a total of 42 blackspots, with 15 located within Pune Municipal Corporation limits22 under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)two under Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC)one under Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), and two under the Public Works Department (PWD).

Dudi stressed that short-term measures such as restricting access, installing warning signboards, clearing obstructions, and barricading must be implemented swiftly. Additionally, long-term solutions should be devised to ensure sustained road safety. He instructed the Police Administration and Regional Transport Department to inspect these measures and submit a compliance report within a month.

Further, the Collector directed officials to analyze accident data from the past year, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to all concerned departments. “Considering the alarming number of road fatalities, comprehensive public awareness on blackspots must be prioritized alongside enforcement,” Dudi stated.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and ensure strict adherence to road safety protocols to minimize accidents.
