Pune: Disaster Averted as Fallen Tamarind Tree Near DY Patil Medical College Quickly Cleared by Fire Brigade
Pune, June 19, 2025: A major disaster was averted early this morning when a large tamarind tree collapsed onto the road near DY Patil Medical College at around 7 am. Thanks to the swift action of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s fire department, the obstruction was cleared within just 30 minutes, restoring normal traffic flow and preventing any injuries or further damage.
According to officials, the 17-member fire brigade team responded immediately to the emergency call. Using specialized equipment, they efficiently cut and removed the fallen tree, ensuring the area was safe for commuters. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the tree’s collapse, but initial assessments suggest possible root weakening due to recent heavy rains.
Local residents and commuters expressed relief at the prompt response, praising the fire department’s efficiency. “Had the tree remained on the road during peak hours, it could have led to severe traffic disruptions or even accidents,” said a witness.
The PCMC has since initiated an inspection of nearby trees to prevent similar incidents in the future.
