Pune News, June 14, 2025 – Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar conducted a high-level review meeting today at Vidhan Bhavan, Pune, to assess the Covid-19 situation in the Pune division, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance, especially for senior citizens and individuals with comorbidities.

Key Directives from Deputy CM Ajit Pawar

Despite mild symptoms being reported in most cases, Pawar stressed that elderly citizens and those with pre-existing health conditions must take extra precautions. He instructed the Health Department, Municipal Corporations, and local governing bodies to work in close coordination to monitor the situation and ensure preparedness.

“Even mild symptoms should not be ignored, particularly for senior citizens and those with underlying health issues. Authorities must ensure seamless coordination to prevent any escalation,” Pawar stated.

Officials Present at the Meeting

The meeting was attended by key officials, including:

  • Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune Divisional Commissioner
  • Navalkishore Ram, Pune Municipal Commissioner
  • Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner
  • Jitendra Dudi, Pune District Collector
  • K. Manjulakshmi, Kolhapur Municipal Commissioner
  • Dr. Vijay Kandewad, Director of Health Services
  • Collectors from Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, and Sangli (via video conferencing)

Current Covid-19 Situation in Pune Division

Dr. Vijay Kandewad provided an update on the prevailing Covid-19 variants, confirming that Omicron subvariants (JN, XFG, and GF7-9) are dominant, causing mild symptoms such as fever, cough, and sore throat. However, he warned that individuals with diabetes, cancer, or weakened immune systems remain at higher risk.

The State Health Information Bureau assured that the situation is under control, stating:
“While Covid cases are rising, there is no need for panic. The current variants are milder compared to previous waves. However, people should follow medical advice and take necessary precautions.”

Precautionary Measures & Wari Pilgrimage Preparedness

Pawar directed officials to:
✔ Strengthen hospital infrastructure ahead of the Wari pilgrimage, which attracts large crowds.
✔ Ensure real-time data monitoring of Covid cases.
✔ Enforce mask usage in crowded areas and promote hygiene practices.

Conclusion

While the current Covid-19 wave remains mild, authorities are taking preventive steps to safeguard high-risk groups. Citizens are advised to avoid crowded places, wear masks, and seek medical help if symptoms persist.
