Pune: Delays in Hinjawadi IT Park Infrastructure Work to Invoke Disaster Management; Major Decisions Taken in High-Level Review Meeting
Pune, July 23, 2025: In a significant move to resolve long-standing infrastructure and traffic congestion issues in Hinjawadi IT Park, a high-level review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar on Tuesday. The meeting, attended by key officials and citizen group representatives, outlined an action plan to expedite pending projects and improve mobility in the area.
Key Decisions from the Meeting
1. Transit Hub Near Balewadi to Reduce Unauthorized Highway Stops
A proposed transit hub for intercity travel near Balewadi will undergo a land survey this Thursday to identify suitable land parcels. The initiative aims to curb unauthorized stops along highways, easing traffic flow.
2. Road Repairs and Upgrades
- Mhalunge Road: MIDC will survey and repair potholes on this backup access route to the IT Park.
- Wipro Circle to Marunji Road: Conversion to a tar surface will be completed within a week.
- Kasarsai Road Work: Construction will resume shortly.
- NH-48 Entrance Road: The first 100-200 meters leading into the IT Park are in poor condition; MIDC has been assigned to repair them.
3. Encroachment Drive and Road Widening
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been commended for its ongoing encroachment removal drive, which will continue until all roads in the IT Park are widened. Surveillance vans will be deployed by MIDC and PMRDA to monitor and prevent further encroachments.
4. NHAI Directed to Fix Potholes and Reconsider Subway Plans
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been instructed to repair potholes along service roads. Additionally, objections were raised against NHAI’s plan to construct narrow box subways, with demands for larger, functional underpasses.
5. AI-Based Traffic Management for Phase 2 & 3
The District Collector proposed implementing AI-based traffic management systems in Hinjawadi’s Phase 2 and 3 areas to optimize traffic flow.
6. Pedestrian Safety and Metro Station Realignment
- A proposal to build pedestrian underpasses or walkways across highways was discussed.
- The Croma Metro staircase plan has been cancelled, with PMRDA acquiring additional land to realign stairs for better metro station access.
7. Waterlogging and Drainage Issues
Buildings opposite MCD Phase 2, where waterlogging was reported, must allow natural drainage flow (nallas) to prevent flooding.
Strict Monitoring and Public Participation
- Officials will conduct another site visit this weekend to verify progress.
- Employees and residents are encouraged to report ground realities.
- Issue Reporting Protocol: Complaints must include geo-tagged photos for swift resolution.
Political and Administrative Commitments
MLA Shankar Jagtap is actively following up on the Surya Hospital to Kaspate Wasti Road development. Meanwhile, MLA Mahesh Landge emphasized the need for a ‘Single Point Authority’ to streamline coordination among departments, as approved by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
WhatsApp Group for Faster Grievance Redressal
A dedicated WhatsApp group will be created with representatives from all concerned departments and citizen associations to ensure quicker resolution of public complaints.
Conclusion
With regular 15-day reviews and strict enforcement of deadlines, the administration aims to transform Hinjawadi IT Park into a congestion-free zone. Delays in planned works may lead to action under the Disaster Management Act, ensuring accountability.
