Pune: Comprehensive Review Meeting Held to Tackle Traffic Congestion Through Land Acquisition
Pune, July 11, 2025 – In a significant move to address the city’s escalating traffic congestion, a high-level review meeting was conducted on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, under the leadership of Hon. Municipal Commissioner Mr. Naval Kishore Ram and in the presence of Hon. District Collector of Pune, Mr. Jitendra Dudi. The meeting aimed to assess pending land acquisition proposals submitted by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to facilitate road expansion and infrastructure development.
Key Discussions and Decisions
A total of 42 land acquisition proposals from various departments were reviewed, with 34 proposals pertaining to the Road Department and the remaining 8 from agencies such as PMPML, State Transport (ST), and others. Each proposal was scrutinized for its current status and necessary action plans.
Priority Roads Identified for Immediate Action
The authorities directed immediate execution of land acquisition for critical arterial roads facing severe traffic bottlenecks, including:
- Katraj-Kondhwa Road
- Satara-Mumbai Road
- Pune-Hadapsar-Solapur Road
The goal is to complete these acquisitions by August 2025. Additionally, for roads categorized under the “missing link” segment, joint surveys will be conducted between July 15 and July 25, 2025, in mission mode to accelerate the process.
Special Focus on Infrastructure Projects
- Notifications for land acquisition related to the approach road of the new bridge from Suncity to Karvenagar will be issued promptly.
- A fast-track directive was issued for land acquisition concerning the integration and expansion of Mahatma Phule Wada and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial.
Formation of Joint Task Force
To ensure swift resolution of land acquisition issues, a joint task force comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Municipal Corporation, and Town Planning Department will be formed. Weekly coordination meetings will monitor progress and ensure timely execution.
Financial and Administrative Commitments
- PMC will allocate necessary funds, supplemented by government grants, with structured financial planning.
- The Municipal Commissioner stressed that traffic decongestion-related land acquisition must be a top priority for all departments.
- Such review meetings will now be held monthly to track progress against set timelines.
