The Chief Minister directed the Finance Department to promptly release the necessary subsidies to MSEDCL. He emphasized that with proper planning of electricity generation and expenditure by the Energy Department, electricity can be made available to consumers at affordable rates. He further instructed that any discrepancies between sanctioned funds and actual disbursements must be eliminated to ensure financial stability in the state’s power distribution system.

“Affordable electricity begins with responsible planning and timely funding,” CM Fadnavis stated, adding that rule amendments should be introduced wherever necessary to streamline the subsidy process.

Focus on Farmers and Common Consumers

CM Fadnavis highlighted the urgency of releasing funds for key schemes like the Mukhyamantri Baliraja Free Electricity Scheme and the PM Kusum Yojana, both of which are designed to benefit farmers and the common man. He urged the Finance Department to give serious consideration to the Energy Department’s funding proposals to avoid any delays in implementation.

The Chief Minister also stressed that electricity tariffs should be determined in a way that provides relief to ordinary consumers, without compromising on the operational efficiency of the distribution system.

Key Issues Reviewed

The comprehensive meeting covered the following important aspects:

  • Financial requirements of the Energy Department for the year 2025–26
  • Pending electricity dues from various government departments

  • Budget allocations and provisions for various state energy schemes
  • Progress and operations of the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA)

The review also included an evaluation of Maharashtra’s renewable energy initiatives, reinforcing the state’s commitment to a sustainable and inclusive energy future.

Strengthening the System

To ensure better efficiency and accountability, the Chief Minister instructed officials to initiate timely recovery of dues, monitor the gap between budgetary approvals and disbursements, and make necessary amendments to existing rules to support MSEDCL’s financial stability.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Energy Meghna Bordikar, Minister of Non-Conventional Energy Atul Save, and senior officials from the Energy and Finance Departments.
