Pune News, July 18, 2025: Persistent complaints from flyers about cab drivers refusing rides at Pune Airport’s AeroMall pickup point have prompted authorities to take strict action. Officials announced that drivers repeatedly denying rides will be barred from entering the AeroMall premises, ensuring better service for passengers.

Senior AeroMall officials emphasized the need for discipline, as travelers often face long waits and unnecessary hassles due to ride refusals. Many cabbies are also insisting on a ‘fare by meter’ system, leading to inflated costs for passengers.

YS Rajput, Vice-President of AeroMall, said, “Flyers have raised concerns about cab drivers refusing trips, either because they prefer specific destinations or longer rides. We are working with cab aggregators to identify repeat offenders.”

Rajput explained that a list of such drivers will be compiled, and warnings will be issued. “If they continue refusing rides, they will be banned from AeroMall for days or weeks. Geotagging will help track their locations during refusals,” he added.

The move aims to enforce compliance and improve passenger experience. “Drivers must understand that such behavior affects their livelihood. We want regulations to be followed,” Rajput stated.

Flyers’ Frustrations and Alternative Measures

Recent reports highlighted passengers abandoning AeroMall due to poor cab availability, opting instead for autos and cabs outside the airport. A Bibwewadi resident, shared his ordeal: “The pickup area is poorly ventilated, and drivers act arbitrarily with no accountability.”

To address grievances, AeroMall will soon introduce a helpline number displayed across the facility. “Flyers struggling to find cabs can call for assistance. We offer multiple options—Ola, Uber, Rapido, Meru, Cab-e, and pre-paid cabs—along with auto services,” Rajput said. Directions to AeroMall will also be displayed at airport baggage belts.

While flyers welcomed the initiative, skepticism remains. Another frequent traveler, suggested, “Regulated pickups from the terminal building could ease the situation, as many now avoid AeroMall altogether.”
