Pune: Authorities Issue Red Alert, Likely to Release Water from Mula, Mutha, and Pavana Dams Amid Heavy Rainfall Warnings
Pune, July 15, 2025 – In light of the Red Alert issued for Pune district, the Central Flood Control Room, Pune, has announced the possibility of controlled water discharge from Mula, Mutha, and Pavana river basins today. The decision comes as heavy rainfall occurring in the catchment areas of these dams, increasing the risk of flooding.
The Water Resources Department, Government of Maharashtra, and the Khadakwasla Dam Division have warned residents, especially those near riverbanks under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) jurisdictions, to remain vigilant. Authorities have advised immediate relocation of any livestock, vehicles, or debris from riverbeds to prevent damage.
Key Details:
- Red Alert Issued: IMD forecasts intense rainfall in Pune district.
- Dams Affected: Mula, Mutha, and Pavana reservoirs may release water in phased increments to manage rising levels.
- High-Risk Areas:Â PMC and PCMC zones near riverbanks urged to stay alert.
- Precautionary Measures:Â Citizens should avoid riverbanks, monitor updates, and report emergencies to authorities.
The Central Flood Control Room emphasized that gradual increases in water discharge may occur depending on rainfall intensity. Officials, including Control Officer Shweta Y. Kurhade, have directed all administrative departments to take necessary precautions.
Residents are advised to follow official updates from @PMCPune and @pcmcindiagovin and cooperate with disaster response teams.
