Pune and Several Regions Under Heavy Rainfall Alert; Red Alert for Ghats and Konkan on June 24

As the monsoon intensifies across India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several weather alerts for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, particularly in Pune, Konkan, and the Western Ghats. Citizens are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the weather system brings intense downpours over the coming days.

Red Alert for Ghats and Konkan on June 24

On June 24, IMD has issued a red alert for the ghat areas of Pune and Nashik, along with Konkan. These areas are likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall — defined as more than 20 cm in 24 hours. Pune district may experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 3 to 4 hours, and local authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant.

Additionally, Vidarbha is forecast to receive heavy showers at a few locations while other parts may experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain.

Orange Alert for June 25

Moving forward, an orange alert has been issued for June 25 in Konkan and all ghat areas. Vidarbha will again see localized heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity. The monsoon intensity is expected to persist in these regions through June 26–28, with continued alerts for Konkan, ghats, and Vidarbha.

Pan-India Rainfall Outlook (June 24–30)

The IMD has provided a broader outlook for several Indian states between June 24 and 30, as follows:

  • Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra:
    Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected, with isolated extremely heavy falls likely on June 24. Rain activity is expected to continue throughout the week.
  • Saurashtra & Kutch:
    Isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted through the week.
  • Gujarat State, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada:
    Light to moderate rain is likely at most places during this period.

Authorities have asked local disaster response teams to stay on alert in vulnerable districts, especially those under red and orange alerts. Commuters and travelers are advised to check weather forecasts before planning movement through ghat sections or flood-prone areas.
