Pune, May 29, 2025 – Pune Airport is undergoing a major transformation as the redevelopment of its old terminal building progresses swiftly, announced Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol. With the new Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) already operational, authorities are now focusing on boosting the airport’s capacity and passenger experience.

The NITB currently spans 36,000 square meters, with an additional 6,000 square meters set to be added in the ongoing upgrade. “The revamped terminal will include 48 check-in counters, two automated boarding gates, a new departure gate, and expanded ticketing facilities, enabling the airport to handle up to 1.05 crore passengers annually,” Mohol stated.

The central government has allocated ₹25 crore for the redevelopment, with strict deadlines ensuring completion by the end of 2025. Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials emphasized that the project addresses Pune’s growing air travel demand.

Alongside terminal upgrades, runway expansion plans are advancing. The critical Obstacle Limitation Survey (OLS) has been completed, paving the way for runway extension to accommodate larger aircraft and more international flights.

“OLS results are positive, and discussions with the Indian Air Force for land acquisition are progressing well,” Mohol added. He expects the land acquisition process to conclude within seven to eight months, accelerating the airport’s modernization.

The expansion will significantly enhance Pune’s aviation infrastructure, improving domestic and international connectivity.
