Pune: AI-Powered Traffic Camera Issues 742 Challans on FC Road in Just 13 Days

Pune News, June 11, 2025: Pune’s traffic police have taken a major step toward automated enforcement with an AI-powered traffic surveillance system installed on Fergusson College (FC) Road, which has already issued 742 e-challans in just 13 days since its launch.
Pilot Project for Smarter Traffic Management
The system, part of a 90-day pilot project introduced on May 28, uses AI-enabled cameras to automatically detect and penalize traffic violations such as:
- No parking (201 cases)
- Double parking (420 cases)
- Wrong-side driving (121 cases)
- Illegal halts
The technology monitors live CCTV footage, identifies violations in real-time, and sends alerts to the control room, allowing authorities to issue automated e-challans without manual intervention.

Sharp Decline in Violations After Initial Spike
Data reveals that the highest number of violations (180) were recorded on the first day of the pilot, while the lowest (12) was on June 5, suggesting improved compliance over time.
Future Expansion Under Review
Manoj Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police (East), stated that the system is currently being tested with four AI cameras along FC Road. After the trial period, the traffic police will analyze the results and decide on further implementation.
The project, developed in collaboration with Sensei AI, is spearheaded by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. If successful, it could reduce manual monitoring, enhance enforcement efficiency, and improve road safety across Pune.
