Pune: Administration Swings into Action Post-Flooding, Activates 24×7 Disaster Control Rooms

Pune: In light of the recent heavy rainfall across Baramati and Indapur talukas, district and municipal authorities have activated 24-hour disaster control mechanisms to respond swiftly to emergencies and mitigate potential damage.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi has urged citizens at the taluka and village levels to report any emergencies directly to the District Disaster Control Room, which operates round-the-clock. The helpline numbers are 020-26123371, 020-26133522, and the toll-free number 1077.
In Baramati taluka, continuous rainfall over the past two days led to the Jainkawadi percolation tank reaching its danger level. Quick intervention by Gram Panchayat officials prevented a major disaster as they successfully cleared blockages in the spillway to ensure smooth water flow, according to Group Development Officer Dr. Anil Bagal.

Deputy Chief Minister and Pune district’s Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar personally visited the flood-affected areas in Baramati and Indapur on May 26, a day after the severe rainfall. He instructed officials to begin immediate damage assessment (panchnamas). Acting on his directive, District Collector Jitendra Dudi has ordered all relevant departments to initiate the assessments without delay.

During his visit, Ajit Pawar also interacted with affected citizens, assuring them that providing assistance during disasters is a top priority for the state government. He emphasized that the government will ensure all damages are duly recorded and addressed.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heavy rainfall alert, an emergency control system has been activated across the district. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, are closely monitoring the evolving situation and have directed all agencies to remain on 24-hour alert.
