Pune News, July 04, 2025: A tragic incident occurred at Kashid Beach as a 20-year-old Pune student, Tanishk Malhotra, drowned in the sea on July 1. Despite extensive search efforts involving thermal drones, helicopters, and multiple rescue teams, his body was recovered only 43 hours later.

Malhotra, a final-year undergraduate student, had visited Kashid on a day trip with his friends—Mark Milton, Varun Tiwari, and Punya Patil. The group ventured into the sea for a swim but tragically misjudged the water’s depth, wave strength, and current. While three friends managed to return safely, Malhotra was swept away by the strong currents.

The Murud Police, Coast Guard, local lifeguards, and the Sahyadri Vanyajiv Rakshanartha Samajik Sanstha (SVRSS) immediately launched a rescue operation. “Due to the strong current, the body remained untraceable initially,” said police officials. The Indian Coast Guard’s helicopter was deployed for an aerial search, but initial attempts failed.

On July 3, the search intensified with thermal drones, and Malhotra’s body was finally located at 7:45 AM. It was later sent to Murud Rural Hospital for post-mortem procedures.

Authorities reiterated that Kashid Beach remains closed during monsoons due to safety risks, yet tourists continue to ignore warnings. This marks the third drowning-related death in Raigad district in just two months.
