Pune News, June 28, 2025: Tragedy struck Pune’s Vadgaon Budruk on Thursday afternoon when a 19-year-old college student lost her life in a horrific road accident. The victim, Saee Bhagwat, a final-year student, succumbed to fatal injuries after her moped skidded on a waterlogged stretch of Ganesh Colony Road, leading to her being run over by a truck.

The incident occurred around 1:30 PM when Saee was returning home. According to police reports, she lost control of her two-wheeler near a speed breaker while attempting to avoid a water-filled pothole. In a tragic twist, a goods truck that had been trailing her ran her over moments after she fell.

Assistant Inspector Sameer Kakade of Sinhagad Road Police Station provided details: “The truck was initially ahead of Saee’s moped but slowed down near the speed breaker. She overtook it and moved left, but while avoiding the waterlogged patch, her vehicle skidded. She fell to the right—directly into the path of the same truck, which had caught up by then.”

The truck driver callously fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Police have seized the truck and launched a search for the absconding driver. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act for causing death by negligence. The complaint was filed by Saee’s grieving mother, Deepshri Bhagwat.

Saee, a resident of Bhansali Campus near Wadgaon police chowky, was a vibrant theatre artist and an animal lover. Her maternal uncle, Amey Ghate, shared, “Saee was passionate about performing arts—she participated in prestigious competitions like Purushottam Karandak and Firodiya Karandak and acted in commercial plays. She also had a kind heart for animals, often feeding strays.”

Her sudden demise has left her family shattered. Saee’s mother is a junior college teacher in Erandwane, while her father holds a doctorate and works in the pharmaceutical industry. A preliminary postmortem at Sassoon General Hospital confirmed fatal head injuries as the cause of death.

Authorities are conducting further investigations, including an RTO examination of the truck, while tracing the vehicle owner.
