Pune: 12,000 Runners to Compete in City Marathon for Green and Inclusive Cause on March 3

Pune is gearing up for an extraordinary event as 12,000 participants are set to take part in the Pune City Marathon on March 3. This significant sporting event is being organized by The Poona Club Ltd., in collaboration with HQ Southern Command and Dorabjee Charitable Trust, and supported by notable organizations including the Income Tax Sports & Recreation Club Pune, Pune Police Maharashtra, Indian Air Force, and the Department of Goods and Services Tax Government of Maharashtra.

The marathon, which offers 3km, 5km, 10km, and 21km races, aims to promote a Green and Inclusive Pune. According to Sunil Handa, president of The Poona Club, this is the inaugural attempt by the club to host such a large-scale marathon, with aspirations for it to grow bigger and better annually. Jehangir Dorabjee of the Dorabjee Charitable Trust shared the overwhelming enthusiasm they have received for the event.

Shailesh Ranka, the Race Director, highlighted that the Pune City Marathon is dedicated to fostering a healthier, greener, and more compassionate community. The marathon will highlight important causes such as tree plantation, education and welfare for children of sex workers, empowerment for the visually and hearing impaired, and support for old age homes. The event will start early at 5:30 AM with the Half Marathon, beginning and ending at The Poona Club Ltd Cricket Ground. Participants will receive a Dry Fit T-shirt, a finishing medal, a sling bag with goodies, a timing chip for the 10km & 21km races, and other support services, including breakfast and hydration, along with E-certificates of participation.
