PMRDA Clears 231 Encroachments in Chakan to Ease Traffic Congestion

If you’ve driven through the busy town of Chakan recently, you might have noticed things looking a little more open. That’s because a major drive to clear illegal encroachments is underway, aiming to finally ease the area’s notorious traffic jams.
The initiative is being led by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Their goal is straightforward: to reclaim the roads for planned development and ensure a safer, smoother commute for everyone.
The action took place between September 10th and 15th, 2025, and it was a significant effort. Joint teams from the PMRDA, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), and the Chakan Municipal Council worked together under police security to clear the following areas:
- September 10:Â A 3.1 km stretch from Chakan Chowk to Ekatangar on the Pune-Nashik Highway saw 40 encroachments removed.
- September 11:Â The same highway, from Ekatangar back to Chakan Chowk, was cleared of 110 encroachments.
- September 12:Â The team shifted to the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur Road, clearing 42 encroachments along a 1.5 km section towards Talegaon.
- September 15:Â The drive concluded on the same road, heading towards Shikrapur, where 39 more encroachments were removed from a 1.3 km stretch.

So, what does this mean for daily commuters and residents? Wider roads. By freeing up this space, the authorities are directly tackling the root cause of traffic congestion. The cleared pathways are expected to make daily travel not only more efficient but also significantly safer for all road users.
This cleanup drive is more than just a one-time action; it’s a crucial step in PMRDA’s larger plan for the organized and planned development of the rapidly growing Chakan region.
