PMRDA Approves ₹558 Crore Road Projects to Ease Traffic Congestion in Chakan Industrial Area
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has approved infrastructure works worth ₹558.12 crore to tackle severe traffic congestion in Chakan Industrial Area, located in Khed Taluka. The plan includes construction and improvement of roads spanning 40.74 kilometres, covering key industrial and residential zones such as Chakan, Kadu, Kohinde, Kiwale, Alandi, Medankarwadi, and Nane Karwadi.
Road Development Projects Worth ₹196.5 Crore Under Technical Review
Projects worth ₹196.5 crore have completed the tender process and are currently under technical scrutiny. Some of the key roads include Dhamane Phata to Koye (₹8 crore), Kohinde Phata to Kadu Gaothan (₹20 crore), Kadu Gaothan to Kiwale (₹20 crore), Bhose to Vadgaon Ghenand (₹5 crore), Kiwale to Ambethan (₹3.5 crore), and Dehu-Yelwadi (₹104 crore). These roads together cover a total length of 17.69 km.
₹100.14 Crore Projects at Tender Publication Stage
To resolve traffic congestion in the main Chakan junction, PMRDA has initiated projects worth ₹100.14 crore. Tenders for these works were published on October 8, 2025. Key routes under this plan include Chikhali to Moi (₹13.42 crore), Kuruli Phata to Nighoje (₹15.5 crore), Alandi Phata (Chakan) to Alandi Road (₹20 crore), Chahali Khurd to Alandi-Markal Road (₹12 crore), Nighoje to Chakan MIDC (₹6.72 crore), and Khalumbre to MIDC Phase 2 (₹12.5 crore). The combined road length under this section is 17.7 km.
₹261.48 Crore Land Acquisition Projects Underway
Land acquisition work has begun for major connectivity projects worth ₹261.48 crore. These include:
- A 30-metre-wide Talegaon–Chakan highway connecting Hingne Chowk to Chakan MIDC Phase 3 via Volkswagen (₹24.65 crore)
- Nane Karwadi (Sany Company) to Samruddhi CNG Pump (₹33.4 crore)
- Medankarwadi (Bungalow Vasti Chowk to Rase Phata) (₹111.75 crore)
- Western Bypass linking Pune–Nashik Highway (NH 60) to Talegaon MIDC and the old Mumbai–Pune Highway (₹91.68 crore)
Encroachment Removal for “Encroachment-Free Chakan”
Under the “Encroachment-Free Chakan” initiative, PMRDA has already demolished 347 illegal constructions and removed 81 unauthorised hoardings, totalling 428 encroachments cleared.
