Pune, September 16, 2025: Pune’s public transport is set to get a modern upgrade with the introduction of a new double-decker electric bus. The bus, which had its first trial today in Hinjawadi, promises a more comfortable and eco-friendly travel option for city commuters.

This air-conditioned electric bus, made by Switch, is around ₹2 crore in cost. It can carry up to 85 passengers, with 60 seated and 25 standing. It’s a big vehicle too, 4.75 metres tall, 2.6 metres wide and 9.5 metres long, making it perfect for busy routes.

In the first phase, PMPML plans to add 10 such buses to its fleet. The trial run will continue for about 8 to 15 days, after which authorities will review its performance. If all goes well, the bus will start regular services, initially covering key tech and residential hubs like Hinjawadi, Kharadi and Magarpatta.

With rising pollution concerns, this electric bus is expected to cut down carbon emissions while offering a smoother and quieter ride for daily commuters.
