PMC Slaps ₹25,000 Fine for Garbage Burning; Issues Stern Warning
Pune, February, 2026: In a stern move against environmental pollution and public health hazards, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal waste disposal. Authorities recently recovered a fine of ₹25,000 from a violator for burning a massive quantity of garbage at Survey No. 23, Nimbalkar Vasti in the Pisoli area.
The action comes as part of the civic body’s broader initiative to curb air pollution and protect the well-being of residents. Garbage burning is classified as a serious offense under environmental guidelines, as the resulting smoke and toxic fumes pose significant respiratory risks to the local community.
Strict Warning to Residents
PMC officials have issued a high alert to all citizens, emphasizing that the open burning of waste will not be tolerated. The administration warned that anyone found engaging in such activities will face stringent legal action and heavy monetary penalties.
“Protecting the health of our citizens is our top priority. Burning waste is a grave offense, and we urge everyone to follow proper waste management protocols,” an official stated.
Digital Governance and Reporting
To streamline grievance redressal and provide official updates, the PMC has encouraged residents to utilize the PMC CARE app. The platform serves as a one-stop destination for government services, public initiatives, and reporting civic issues like illegal waste dumping.
