Planning to Travel in Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Train in Kashmir? Here’s What You Should Know

The newly launched Vande Bharat trains connecting Katra to Srinagar in Kashmir via the iconic Chenab Bridge have become an instant hit, with all seats fully booked for the next three days. The trains, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, mark a historic milestone as Kashmir is now seamlessly integrated into India’s rail network.
Overwhelming Response from Passengers
On the inaugural day, both Vande Bharat trains—departing at 8:10 AM and 2:55 PM from Katra—were completely packed. An IRCTC official confirmed that bookings for the next three trips have also reached full capacity, leaving many hopeful travelers on the waiting list.
The first train (20401) has a waiting list of over 60, while the second (20403) has crossed 50.
With such high demand, officials advise passengers to plan their journeys in advance.
A Dream Come True for Kashmir
For decades, reaching Srinagar by train remained a distant dream. Now, with the operational Chenab Bridge—the world’s highest rail bridge—the journey offers breathtaking views of deep valleys and snow-capped mountains, promising a boost to tourism in the region.
Faster, Smoother Travel
The semi-high-speed trains complete the journey in just under three hours, with chair car tickets priced at ₹715 and executive class at ₹1,320. The Rail Ministry is thrilled with the response, calling it a “game-changer” for regional connectivity and tourism.
As Kashmir opens its doors to rail travelers, the Vande Bharat Express is set to redefine travel experiences in one of India’s most picturesque landscapes.
