Pimpri-Chinchwad Cracks Down on BRTS Lane Abuse: ₹12.94 Lakh in Fines Collected for Illegal Parking and Violations

Pune News, July 08, 2025: In a determined crackdown on traffic violations that hinder public transport operations, the Nigdi Traffic Police in Pimpri-Chinchwad have taken strict action against illegal parking and unauthorized use of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lanes by private vehicles. The extensive enforcement effort has resulted in the collection of fines totaling ₹12.94 lakh between January and July 2025.
The drive comes after the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) issued an urgent request to curb such violations. According to PMPML officials, unauthorized private passenger vehicles operating on dedicated BRTS lanes and indiscriminate parking around key bus terminals were severely disrupting bus services and worsening traffic congestion. These conditions not only delayed public transport but also posed a significant safety threat to commuters.
Responding promptly, the Nigdi Traffic Division launched a series of targeted operations across Pimpri-Chinchwad. Between January and July 2025, officers acted on 1,762 traffic violation cases, focusing on two key infractions:
- Unauthorized parking near BRTS corridors and bus terminals
- Private vehicle intrusion into BRTS-only lanes
From these actions, a total fine of ₹12,94,000 was collected from vehicle owners found guilty of violating traffic norms.
To further strengthen the effort, the division has deployed patrolling officers tasked with monitoring private vehicle movement on BRTS routes. Officials have assured that strict enforcement will continue, and any violators will be penalized without exception.
The PMPML reiterated its warning to motorists: private vehicles have no right to operate in BRTS lanes. “These lanes are exclusively meant for PMPML buses,” the agency emphasized, adding that any encroachment increases the risk of serious accidents, injuries, or even fatalities.
With this strong enforcement drive, authorities hope to ensure uninterrupted public transport flow, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance commuter safety across the city.
