New Four-Lane Flyover at Bhayanderpada Cuts Mumbai-Thane Travel Time by 25 Minutes

Traveling between Mumbai and Thane just got faster! A newly inaugurated four-lane flyover at Bhayanderpada junction is set to reduce commute time by 15-25 minutes on the busy Ghodbunder Road. The flyover, opened on Wednesday by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, promises smoother connectivity not just between Mumbai and Thane but also for those heading to Navi Mumbai, Nashik, and Gujarat.
A Landmark for Regional Infrastructure
Shinde, who also chairs the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), called the project a game-changer. “This three-level system—ground highway, flyover, and the upcoming Metro 4 line—is Thane’s first integrated traffic solution,” he said. Once operational, the Metro will allow seamless transfers for commuters.
The flyover separates Thane city traffic from outbound vehicles, directing the latter onto the elevated corridor while local traffic uses slip roads and underpasses. This segregation is expected to ease congestion, lower fuel consumption, and improve overall travel efficiency.
Boosting Economy and Future Connectivity
MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee highlighted the flyover’s economic benefits, stating it will accelerate industrial and commercial movement across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Shinde also announced future plans to integrate Metro lines 4 and 4A (Wadala-Kasarvadavli-Gaimukh) with the Dahisar Metro route. Land acquisition for this expansion will begin soon after discussions with CM Devendra Fadnavis.
With smoother traffic flow and reduced delays, the new flyover is set to transform daily commutes for thousands.
