Mumbai Pune Expressway Update: Panvel Exit Towards Mumbai to Remain Closed for 6 Months From Feb 11
According to Navi Mumbai Traffic officials, the shutdown will affect all types of vehicles, both light and heavy, traveling towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT. The restriction, imposed 24 hours a day, seeks to allow smooth development and reduce congestion in the neighborhood.
The exit at Panvel (1.200 km) while heading towards Mumbai on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain completely closed for six months starting February 11, due to construction work at Kalamboli Circle. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is carrying out the construction of a new flyover and underpass as part of the Kalamboli Junction improvement project.
To manage traffic flow, authorities have suggested alternative routes. Vehicles heading towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be diverted at Konphata (9.600 km) onto NH-48 via Palaspe Circle to reach their destinations. Meanwhile, vehicles traveling from Pune to Mumbai and heading towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata will have to continue straight from 1.200 km onto the Panvel-Sion Highway, take a right under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover, and proceed via Roadpali and NH-48.
The restriction order has been issued by Tirupati Kakade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, under the Motor Vehicles Act. The closure will remain in effect until the MSRDC completes the construction work. “Once the project is completed, the issue of traffic congestion at Kalamboli circle will be solved,” DCP Kakade said.
