Mumbai: 19-Year-Old Engineering Student Booked After Speeding Mercedes Kills Woman, Injures Husband in Kharghar
                Navi Mumbai, June 20 – A tragic accident near Hiranandani Bridge in Kharghar has left a woman dead and her husband critically injured after a speeding Mercedes-Benz, allegedly driven by a 19-year-old engineering student, rammed into their scooter on Wednesday night.
Victims Identified
The deceased has been identified as Rekha Yadav (50), while her husband, Gopal Dattu Yadav (54), sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital. The couple, residents of Panvel, were on their way home when the horrific collision occurred.
Details of the Accident
The incident took place around 8:45 PM on the Sion-Panvel Road heading towards Panvel. According to preliminary reports, the Mercedes-Benz, driven at high speed, crashed into the scooter from behind. The impact was so severe that both riders were flung off the two-wheeler.
Rekha Yadav suffered fatal head injuries and was declared dead on the spot, while Gopal Yadav sustained multiple fractures and lacerations on his legs, hands, and face.
Teen Driver Booked
The accused, a New Panvel resident and an engineering student, was returning home after visiting a friend in Belapur when the accident occurred.
Senior Inspector Dipak Surve stated, “The teenager was allegedly driving recklessly. We are examining CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to reconstruct the events. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.”
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage and gathering statements from witnesses to determine the exact cause and speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash. The police have seized the Mercedes for further forensic examination.
This incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving by young motorists and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
