Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed to a warm welcome in Tianjin, China ahead of SCO summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tianjin, China, on Friday to a warm welcome as he began his official visit for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. This is his first trip to China in seven years.

Modi, who had just wrapped up a two-day visit to Japan, shared the update on his X handle, writing, “Landed in Tianjin, China. Looking forward to deliberations at the SCO Summit and meeting various world leaders.”

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited a semiconductor plant in Sendai, located in Japan’s Miyagi prefecture. During his stop there, he stressed the need for stronger partnerships between Japanese governors and Indian states in manufacturing, infrastructure, innovation, start-ups, and small businesses.

In China, Modi will attend the SCO summit on August 31 and September 1. Key bilateral talks are expected with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit.
