In a landmark achievement for India’s automotive industry, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has become the first compact sedan to secure a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP crash test protocol. This milestone is particularly significant in a market where SUVs typically dominate safety rankings.

Top Scores in Adult and Child Safety

The Dzire scored 29.46 out of 32 in adult occupant protection, showcasing strong structural integrity and restraint system effectiveness. Meanwhile, its child occupant protection rating was an impressive 41.57 out of 49, making it one of the highest-rated models for rear-seat safety.

Rigorous Testing, Strong Performance

The sedan excelled in side pole impact tests, with no critical failures in occupant protection. In the side barrier impact test, head and abdominal areas were rated as well-protected, while chest safety was deemed adequate. The frontal offset crash test revealed excellent protection for the head and legs of both driver and passenger, though the driver’s chest safety was marginally lower.

Near-Perfect Child Safety Ratings

The Dzire aced dynamic crash tests for child safety, scoring 23.57 out of 24, and achieved a perfect 12/12 in child restraint system (CRS) compatibility. However, it scored lower (6/13) in vehicle-level assessments like warning labels and seat anchorage visibility.

A New Benchmark for Compact Sedans

Launched in November 2024, the new Dzire has already become a bestseller, and this 5-star Bharat NCAP rating further cements its reputation. Its success highlights the growing emphasis on safety in mass-market cars, proving that even sub-4-metre sedans can achieve top-tier protection.
